Living A Healthier, Happier Life | And Why It’s Important

I believe that being healthy, and taking care of yourself, leads to happiness. Of course, we all have health complications from time to time, and some have illnesses that are ongoing. But, despite those complications that are unavoidable, it is so crucial to take the best care of your mind, soul, and body.

I don’t think that wanting to take care of yourself is a conceited or selfish thing. In fact, I believe it pleases God when we take care of the bodies He gave us. I believe it brings Him honor. To sit around and be lazy, or to not give our bodies the nutrients they need, would be wasting the bodies God created. We weren’t made to live a life of laziness – we were built to have dreams and ambitions, and I think it’s important to be healthy and in shape to do whatever God calls us to do.

We are all influencing someone, whether it’s a friend, sibling, student, or for me, children you take care of. Personally, I want to set an example of how to love your body for the kids I nanny and my little siblings. I especially want to encourage young girls with the right reasons to workout and eat healthy. If you’re a parent, it’s important to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your children, and be a good example to them.

For me, being truly happy, requires this type of self-care. So today, I’d like to share some of the practical ways I take care of myself.

Working out.

I won’t go into detail on this one, since I wrote an entire post about it last week, but you can read that post by clicking here.

Getting enough sleep.

This is one of the hardest for me. I’ve talked about this before, but I like to stay up late, either hanging out with friends, working on a post or my book, or talking with my family . . . but I also like to get up early to workout or do some editing. I tend to have an “I’ll sleep when I’m dead,” mentality, but then I end up overdoing it and exhausting myself. So yes, sleep is very important for our bodies to function the right way.

Vitamins

Ever since I was young, my parents have taught us to always take vitamins. Now I see how important it is, especially when you’re sick.

Eating right

I could go on and on about this one, but this is a topic for a whole other post! Basically, it’s important to remember that you are what you eat, and that eating well is so beneficial to your body. Make sure you are eating enough calories and nutrients, but not overeating, and allow yourself a treat every once in a while!

Journaling

Journaling isn’t for everyone, but it’s great for anyone with anxiety, or just if you want a place to keep memories or to write down what’s on your mind.

Devotionals

Like journaling, reading a devotional every morning is a great stress reliever, and it also sets the tone for the rest of your day. My favorite place to do this is on the Bible app, but you can also buy a physical devotional book, or just open your Bible.

Getting outside/Walking

Getting out for a walk, either with a dog, a friend, or by yourself, is so great not just for your body, but also for your mind. It clears your thoughts, and getting outside and looking at the sky and nature can be therapeutic for some people.

Loving others

This one is super simple. In order to be happy, we must think of others, care for them, and love them. Because it’s just not possible to be happy if you’re not loving others and being kind. And it’s a win-win situation – when we’re kind to others, it not only blesses them, but it blesses us in return.

These are a few simple ways that I like to take care of myself to live a happier, healthier life. I don’t like to diet or do anything crazy to get in shape, I simply like to have a healthy mindset and lifestyle.

And I’m always looking for new ways to stay active and healthy, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts in the comments! I love hearing from my readers!

As always, thank you so much for stopping by! My hope is that this post helps to assist you in living your best, fullest life.

With love,

Gabriella
