Why I Love To Write

I have exciting news . . . I began working on my third book! The last book I wrote was completed several months ago, so I’m SO excited to be working on a new project.

I had almost forgotten how amazing drafting and writing a story makes me feel. I can’t wait to get home every day just to sit down and work on my story. It’s an incredible feeling knowing that I am the one that’s drafting the entire story and creating all the characters.

Right now I’m in the process of working with my editor on my first book, so book number three isn’t my first priority. In other words, it could take years for me to finish it! But I’m excited to start drafting out ideas and outlining the plot.

Writing is my therapy. It relives stress and makes me feel so happy. Some people go on long drives to de-stress. Some people read. My brother plays his guitar. I write stories. I don’t know what I’d do without this old laptop and my never ending collection of notebooks.

Many of the scenes in my books were inspired by real life advents. Sometimes I’ll have a meaningful (or humorous) conversation with someone and think, Hmm, I should put this in my book.’ Many of my characters are based off of people in my life as well.

Buffy Andrews once said, “You know you’re a writer when you talk about your characters as if they were real people.” I am totally guilty of this! I’m sure it drives my friends crazy when I talk about how much “Jack” reminds me of my brother, or how I wish I could be as adventurous as “Scarlett.”

I love blessing others with my writing. I love hearing friends and family tell me how one of my blog posts or a scene in one of my books was encouraging or helpful to them. That in itself brings me satisfaction. I hope to make some sort of difference in the world through my writing.

Writers see the world differently. Every voice we hear, every face we see, every hand we touch, could become story fabric.
