1 Timothy 4:12

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity – 1 Timothy 4:12

Have you ever learned something from someone much younger than you? Sometimes I feel like God teaches me things through the little boy I babysit, and it’s almost more effective than when I’m taught something by someone older than I am. It’s really meaningful and . . . encouraging.

So why am I saying this? I want to encourage and empower all my friends out there who have ever felt discouraged because of their age. I’ve been there. I have a long list of things that I plan to accomplish during my time here on earth, and sometimes it feels like I cannot begin accomplishing those things until I’m older, or am more financially independent, or live on my own. But although those things may seem like they make a difference, they are very small details in God’s eyes.

He can use you right where you are, if you let him. I know of many teenagers who are more spiritually mature and motivated than some adults, and I believe that God can use young people to teach and encourage even those that are older than them. I believe he uses young people to do amazing, hard things. Look at these verses from the book of Job,

7 I thought, ‘Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’ 8 But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding.

This passage tells us that sometimes, it isn’t the ones who are experienced in life that teach. Sometimes the young can teach the old and can be an example to those older than them, if they have the spirit of God in them.

If you have the passion or desire to make a difference in the world, to accomplish something great that will ultimately bring God more glory – don’t let your age hinder you. I don’t believe that God requires us to be a certain age before he can use us for his purposes. He has great plans in mind for you. Don’t underestimate that.

No matter what age you are, God says that he can use you to accomplish great things. Are you willing to let him?

Love,

Gabriella
