The Confidence to not Care

Confidence. That old thing!

As you know, my moto is live life to the fullest, and I recently realized that part of following through with that is having confidence. Confidence that frees me to not care what anyone thinks of me except for God. Here’s how it works: I’m a child of God, and I get my approval from Him. So why do I need to allow other’s opinions to even affect me? Answer: I don’t.

We all have at least one person in our lives whom we feel is impossible to please; someone that constantly tears us down. I think the key is to take that feeling of rejection that that person brings, and replace it with the peace of knowing that, no matter what that person thinks, I am enough in God’s eyes, and He’s pleased with me, therefore I shouldn’t ever feel like I’m not enough. Does that make sense?

Look at it this way. Picture that person in your mind – that person who constantly seems to make you feel less-than or basically just destroys your confidence whenever they’re in your presence. Maybe you have a few of them in your life. Chances are, this person probably has quite a few issues that they need to deal with, and are in no place to judge you.

Now think about God for a minute. He is the one that created you and knows you better than anyone else in the whole word. He knows your secrets and every thought that goes on in your head, and still His love for you is unconditional. He, unlike that other person, is perfect, and loved you at your darkest (Roman’s 5:8).

So whose opinion do you value more? That person who is nearly unpleasable and probably finds enjoyment in tearing you down – or God’s? Not a very tough decision when you put it like that, is it?

Now back to what I was saying about living life to the fullest. I’ve realized that in order for me to do that, I need to fully let go of the grip that the insults from those people in my life had on me. I needed to give up their opinions and say, “What the heck. They obviously need to work some things out between themselves and God, and I have enough confidence to not value their opinions. It only matters what God thinks of me, and if I’m doing things right in his eyes, who cares what other people think?”

And if you still find yourself unable to be free from the grip of those people in your life, listen to All He Says I Am by Cody Carnes. I think this song pretty clearly lays out what I’m trying to get to about what God thinks of us. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a mom or dad in your life; it doesn’t matter whether you feel you belong; doesn’t matter if you’re rich or broke. God calls you His own. And that’s what matters.

I hope you’re having a good Thursday! I honestly wasn’t sure where I was going with this post when I sat down to write it, but I think I’m satisfied with where it went. Thank you for reading!! If you know of any other songs that help with self-worth, let me know in the comments!

Galatians 1:10 – I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

Gabriella
