Fear and Anxiety

Hi, everyone! Today I want to talk about fear and anxiety. I think we can all agree that we face fear and/or anxiety in one form or another. I know I do.

I get really bad anxiety before my volleyball games. Like, to the point where I can hardly breathe or speak or move. I understand that “it’s just a game”, but I feel like I owe it to my team to play my best. I put a lot of pressure on myself, and get angry when I mess up.

The other day my brother dropped me off at my game, and before I got out of the car he turned on a song. I’d never heard it before, but the chorus said, “Fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in your love.”

I found these lyrics really encouraging. They reminded me that fear has no place in God’s presence. With the God of Miracles on my side, fear doesn’t stand a chance. God has already overcome the world (John 16:33). His love is more powerful than any fear I may face.

I often feel like a slave to anxiety. I feel like I’m not good enough; like my life is falling apart before my eyes; or like I’m not loved. Like I’m not destined for greatness.

You have not received a spirit that makes you a fearful slave. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own.

-Romans 8:15

God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear . . . fear is a lie from the devil. God says He knows the plans He has for us. He calls us His own. He tells us not to be afraid, for He has gone before us.

You don’t have to fight this battle, because He’s already won. He’s got you.

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper.

-Psalm 118:6-7

“Be not afraid, I go before you always , come follow me and I will give you rest”

And after all, there isn’t anything you can’t handle head on. Sometimes it’s difficult but fear, anxiety and jealousy are all destructive qualities .
You know you are a positive force in this world, you hold on to your strength!
