Tomboy Style | Hiking with Jake

Can I start this post off by saying that this was the most interesting photo shoot I’ve ever done?

First of all, it was windy and cold; which is ok because I’m pretty much use to shooting photos in 10 degree weather by now. But some people enjoyed complaining about the cold . . .

Also, my dog was freaking out. I don’t know why, but he didn’t want to cooperate.

And lastly . . . stay tuned to see Jake’s fail at the end of this post.

Okay, now I’ll get to the point of this post! I’ve been seeing this “Tomboy Style” trend for a long time now, and I thought I’d show you my personal version.

When overalls began trending again, I thought I wouldn’t ever wear them. I thought they looked impossible to style and that they’d make me look like I was ten. But when I tried these on I fell in love with them. They’re so cute and easy for spring and summer and I love that I can wear them like this to look casual, or dress them up for church.

I think the trick is to find overalls that fit well and aren’t too small. Size up if you need to. And don’t pair them with anything too bulky – like a chunky sweater, a shirt covered with ruffles, or big, bulky boots. I wore a slightly oversized flannel because I wanted to perfect this “hiking look”, but in general I usually wear a fitted shirt underneath them.

You can find overalls at most clothing stores now, but my favorite place for overalls is Gap. I got these ones last year so they may not have the same exact ones right now, but I know they have similar ones. I will try to link those below.

I haven’t said much about my Sperry’s, but that’s probably because I’m a little embarrassed to be wearing them for yet another blog post! Sperry’s go with EVERYTHING. I definitely recommend them if you’re thinking about getting them for next winter.

When Jake pretends he likes Moses haha.

Okay, now for those of you who scrolled through this post only to hear about Jake’s epic fail. I guess it was partly my fault as well . . . I guess.

Anyways, I know you skipped though all my talk about overalls, flannels, Sperry’s, and my Tomboy style to get to the story, so I’ll get on with it.

It was my idea to jump on Jake’s back for some of the photos because I thought it would be cute, but he thought he’d be cool and climb onto a log WITH me STILL on his back. Then he put one hand in the air to pose for a photo.

Can I just point out that we are basically standing on the edge of a cliff! I was screaming for him to get down, but it didn’t work so I shielded my eyes, knowing it wasn’t going to end well.

Apparently in my fear of falling down the cliff I let go of Jake, which caused him to stumble. That brings us to this photo:

Can you see the terror in my face?!

Finally, we have this photo:

Thankfully, we didn’t fall down into the ditch (it would have made for a good story though…). I do have a photo of me punching Jake afterwards, but I don’t think I’ll share that one.

Thanks for reading!

With love,

Gabriella
