Morning Rituals | Starting the Day Off Right

Morning is my favorite time of the day. I’m most productive then, and the day has just started so the possibilities are endless! Not to mention, breakfast.

I like getting up early, I think partly because I don’t like to sleep very much. I know it’s necessary for a healthy life, but I feel like I’m missing out on life and exciting things going on in the world when I’m sleeping. I wish I could go to bed late, wake up early, and get enough sleep all at once. (;
Sunny mornings are my favorite. If I wake up early and the sun is coming through my bedroom window (which really only happens in the spring/summer), I know it’s going to be a good day.

My friends laugh at me because I usually wake up at least two hours before I have to leave the house so I can do my full morning routine and not feel rushed. Even if I’m at home that day, I like to get up before the rest of the fam and get some things done before I begin school or whatever I’m doing that day. That way, I feel like I’ve accomplished something already, and the day is off to a good start.

I have several rituals that I do every morning. They ensure that I’m getting off on the right foot, and some have just become a habit that I can’t live without. I did a day in my life post this summer, which you can read here, but I thought today I’d focus just on the morning part of my day.

1  – First things first, lemon water.

As I’ve mentioned before, I take hydrating myself very seriously. Every morning, before I eat anything, I drink at least 8 ounces of lemon water. When I first started doing this, it was more of a chore. But now that it’s become a habit, I literally wake up craving my lemon water. I don’t drink coffee, nor do I ever hope to get into the habit, so this is my way of getting some energy first thing in the morning.

2 – Read my bible plan.

Next, I read my bible plan on the bible app, something I definitely recommend. And if you follow me there (name is Gabriella Catherine) you can see which plans I’m reading at the moment. It’s a great app.

3 – Tidying up.

So I get a bit of anxiety when my room isn’t in perfect order. Clutter drives me crazy. Every morning when I wake up, and every night before I go to bed, I straighten up my room. That may sound a bit obnoxious, but it’s just what works best for me.

4 – Skincare

Again, every morning and every night, I do my skincare routine. (You can read my post on skincare here.)

5 – Emails/blog comments.

Once I go downstairs and get on my laptop, I get emails and blog things out of the way. Lots of people are most creative in the morning, but I think I’m more practical/productive than creative. Morning is when I come up with to-do lists and logical ideas, but my creativity is usually better in the evening. So making list type blog posts (like this one) and editing my writing is preferred in the morning. Actually writing plot ideas, writing dialogue, and writing more fun, creative posts happens in the evening.

And finally, number six is something new that I’ve been doing . . .

6 – Essential oils.

A friend got me a defuser for my birthday, and I’m kind of obsessed with it. Each morning I fill my defuser with a different oil and let it run while I do my morning routine so that when I go to my desk to start working, it smells good and helps me wake up and de-stress. I feel like this is more of a girl thing, but I find them very beneficial.

There you have it! Those are six of my morning rituals! I love improving my morning routine, so let me know in the comments what your morning rituals are. (: Happy Sunday, friends!

Love,

Gabriella

Ways To Be More Productive This Year

  1. Hi Gabriella,
another great post. I’ve heard that lemon water is very good for you to drink first thing in the morning but I always need to have my cup of coffee. It’s the only one I drink each day and I truly enjoy having it first thing when I wake up. Morning is a great time to read the Bible while it’s quiet with no distractions.

  2. Good morning sweet girl,
Morning routine is a cup of coffee ,read my bible and because I like the feel of paper I don’t have the app.
This is just one of the things I enjoy doing in the morning.
    Merry Christmas
