How I Lightened My Hair With Sun-In

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been talking a lot about my hair transformation lately! If you don’t, you might have noticed that my hair has gotten quite a bit lighter in the last several months – in fact, many of you have messaged me or commented on my posts to ask if I colored my hair!

The answer is no; I didn’t go to my hair stylist and bleach/highlight/color my hair. I’ve actually never done anything to my hair before (besides cut it)!

But a few months ago I was talking with my friend Hannah about how I was considering coloring my hair. I was scared to commit for several reasons – money, hair damage, the pressure to keep up with it.

So Hannah suggested I try using Sun-In.

I’m sure lots of you have heard of the product before, but if you haven’t, Sun-In is basically just a $3 spray that is activated by heat and the sun.

At first, I was skeptical. But the results actually blew me away! After only about four months of using the spray continuously, my hair had lightened so much that people were asking where I went to get it colored.

Here are the before and after results of from using it for only a couple months:

Since I’ve gotten lots of DMs and comments asking about how to actually use the product, I thought I would share a quick tutorial here!

How to use Sun-In to lighten hair –

  • For an overall lighten, you’ll want to spray all your hair with the product while it’s wet. Then, either blow dry or go out in the sun. It works super well if you take the spray with you to the beach, lake, or pool, as you can keep applying to your wet hair and let the sun work on it.
  • Some people only want to add highlights to their hair, which can be more difficult. There are directions for highlights on the back of the bottle, which basically say to spray only sections of your hair, specifically on the top layer .
  • *If you already color your hair, you should talk to your hair stylist before trying Sun In.
