Living With Purpose

A couple weeks ago, I sat in church and my pastor talked about the day Jesus calls us to heaven. Usually, those types of messages make me a little uncomfortable, I think, because they get me thinking about something other than the routine of everyday life, which is all we really know. Of course, getting to spend eternity with God will be absolutely amazing. But when I think about life beyond earth, it also always makes me question if I’m doing “enough”.

Most days, I get so focused on the routine of everyday life. I wake up, I drink water, I make my bed, I eat breakfast, I get out my computer, I write a blog post or send emails… It’s hard to remember that there is so much more beyond here and now. There’s more beyond my job, my education, and my current struggles.

There is something really powerful about living each day like it’s your last. Obviously, I’m not perfect at it. But if you knew you only had a week, a month, or a year left to live – how would you live differently?

My first thought is to say I would quit school, stop saving money, and eat whatever I wanted. But talking realistically … I would make sure everything I did, every word I spoke, every post and every book I wrote had meaning and purpose. I wouldn’t care about small, meaningless arguments and preferences. I would make more of the time I had left. I would call my friends and grandparents more often. I would plan more parties and gatherings, spend more time serving and loving other people.

I hope you’re all having a great Friday! These thoughts have been on my heart lately, and I hope you’ll find them encouraging, and that they’ll remind you to live each day with more intention and purpose.

Love,

Gabriella
