A Balancing Act – How much is Too Much?

Hello! Welcome back, friends! Happy October!

So . . . life lately. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ve ever encountered a busier season. I feel like I’m
out of the house more than I’m home, and like I’m constantly running (quite literally) from one thing to the next.

I often find myself trying to fill my schedule to the limit, but staying sane is also important (haha). How much is too much? I mean, I’m trying to be somewhat spontaneous and fit as many adventures and experiences into my life as possible. But down time/quiet time/family time shouldn’t go out the window.

For me, I know I’m scheduling too much into my week when the following happens:

  • I don’t have any time for the things I love to do (writing, reading, blogging)
  • I don’t have time to exercise.
  • I don’t have time to eat/I have to gulp down my meals on the go and end up not eating enough.
  • I’m not getting enough sleep.
  • I don’t have time for friends and family.
  • I don’t have time to read the bible/pray every morning.

I value relationships, and all of the things above, too much to let my busy schedule remove them from my life completely. Even reserving time to take care of yourself is important. Making sure you have time to go on a run or a walk or even just stretch is important, as well as getting enough sleep at night so you can function and succeed in your busy life.

It really is a balancing act. I’m constantly balancing school, work, blogging, writing, responsibilities at church, volleyball, friends, family, etc. I have to remind myself often of what’s top priority, and then go from there. The things that aren’t might have to wait until the end of the day. My writing and blogging needs to be done outside of school hours. I need to go to bed at a decent time so I can get up early to workout before my day starts. If I miss my workout, I might take a walk after dinner with a friend, killing two birds with one stone. During lunch, I might pull out my laptop to get some editing done while I eat.

Again, it’s a balancing act.

So during this fall season, which seems to be so crazy busy for a lot of us, remember what’s top priority, and balance the other important things. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Reserve time to take care of yourself, time for friends, and for the things that you love.

And finally, live life to the fullest. Be spontaneous when you can. Plan your days wisely. And spend time chasing your dreams.

Love,

Gabriella

  1. I really enjoyed this post. Life can get crazy at times but it sounds like you know what is needed to make it all work. Always remember to take one day at a time and make the most of the day! 🙂
