“Yesterday” Is Heavy

A couple weeks ago, I posted a quote on Instagram stories about letting go of “yesterday” and I got quite a bit of feedback on it. I want to talk about that topic quickly this morning, because it’s been hitting me hard lately.

Life, itself, is heavy. Heavy from emotions – sometimes good, sometimes bad – , heavy from stress, and sometimes heavy from pain, disappointment, and regret. We can’t avoid it, but we can change the way we react and the way we live moving forward.

I try (key word: try) to make every day a good day. I’ve talked about my morning rituals before, and I have those habits in place simply because I want to live my best life and make the most of my time on earth. But don’t you hate it when you’re trying your best to have a great day, yet you keep dwelling on an event from the day before? Maybe it was a comment someone made that made you feel unloved or worthless. Or maybe it was a mistake you made, a deadline you didn’t make, and you haven’t forgiven yourself.

Whatever the unfortunate situation might be, let it go! Put it down. Give it up to God.

You have greater, more important things to do today than to dwell on yesterday.

I like to live one day at a time. I believe in embracing moments as they come – in holding on to the good ones and letting go of the bad ones. That doesn’t mean that my past pain completely leaves me forever. It doesn’t mean I forget about it. But I don’t carry it around with me everywhere I go. I don’t let it affect how I live. I don’t let it cause me to live in fear, or to hinder me from loving people completely. I choose to live in freedom, and let go of the things that try to hold me down.

The pain from yesterday is heavy, but you don’t have to carry it any longer. Today is a new day.

Yesterday is heavy. Put it down.

Gabriella

P.S. I love this song!! (Burn the Ships, For King and Country) This song perfectly describes what I’m trying to convey in this post.

  1. I admire you so much for writing this post. As I have said so many times before, you are so wise for your years! What you said is so true but it’s not always easy to let go. But that is what God wants us to do. He wants us to turn these things over to Him and trust that He will handle them for our good. Great job!!
